Stepping Numbers

I am a bit of a numbers geek at times, so of course, I like to look a little closer at some of the numbers behind the individual days.

First up is the highest day for the week which was Wednesday with a total of 22,634 steps. While the lowest day was Monday with a total of 15,349 steps.

I hit my daily step goal a total of 7 times this week and walked a total of 120,240 steps. Giving me an average of 17,177 steps per day across the week. With my steps this week that gives me 3,826,709 steps for the year to date.

This Time Last Year

Looking back to Week 33 of 2018, following are some of the step numbers for comparison. I walked a total of 119,104 steps with an average of 17,014 steps per day. The highest day was 18,548 and the lowest day was 15,812. To read more check out Walking Update – Week 33, 2018.

Other Thoughts

I was contemplating recently what could be the most steps to walk in a day. Not what my highest has been, but if I just walked all day just how many steps might I walk.

In the past, I have worked out how many steps I do average per minute. Partly to see how many I could walk in a minute, but also to see how speed impacts the accuracy of the fitness tracker counting the steps. It turns out that 120 steps per minute see the accuracy decline. But I found that 100 steps a minute was a somewhat comfortable pace.

So that leaves the potential for two different answers to how many steps am I capable of in a single day. The first answer assuming 14 hours of walk, based on sleeping eight hours, bathroom breaks and time to eat would be 84,000 steps. The second answer assuming that I could walk for a continuous 24 hours period would be 144,000 steps.

That being said though I doubt that I am ever going to attempt either of these. But it is something interesting to contemplate and ask the question what if?
